Well what can you say about this place!Used to be good and then a HUGE announcement that WESTFIELD was coming to replace it announced on 2014!Now 2019 and still no dart date due to the utter incompetence of the Croydon Partnership under Labour control!Half empty and stores all closed and no clue as to what is going to happen!!!Oh well. Just adds to the rest of the reputation of Croydon! Knackered and a BIG MESS!!!!!!
I was most disappointed seeing what was once a busy and bustling shopping centre so rundown. Many well known shops have now permanently closed and the empty shops have not been replaced by other stores except for cheap outlets selling shoddy goods. Whether it's happening all over the country due to the online shopping revolution I don't know, but it was sad being in Croydon today :(
Croydons famous shopping centre is fading as shops close in anticipation of the redevelopment of the centre over the next few years. Allders department store is no longer with us, so Marks and Spencer is the last remaining store of its kind other than a decent-sized Boots and various clothes shops. There are smaller shops and a couple of places to get food - the sushi place near the escalator does an excellent chicken curry.
We visited on boxing day. It's thirty years and more since I lived locally, and I was dismayed at how run-down the area has become. There are some nice shops, but much of the place feels tatty and second-rate. I hear that it's soon to be closed and redeveloped. Let's hope they can make it more welcoming without pricing it out of range of local residents.
Lots of shops in one place. You can find everything here. 2 main floor with restrooms on a 3rd. Multiple entrances onto the high road and a good parking structure. Wheel chair accessible. Clean and tidy. Helpful staff.
